Chairman of the Shooters and Fishers Party (WA), Ray Hull has welcomed the long awaited publication of the WA Law Reform Commission’s Review of the Firearms Act 1973 Discussion Paper.
The 200 page document and a further 120 pages of Annexures was released on 30 October, nearly a year from its original due date.
“The document has some good, solid suggestions but others that will cause a lot of concern among our members,” Mr Hull said.
“The Commissioners do appear to have done a thorough job and we are particularly pleased at the number of suggestions and comments that have been attributed to our elected Member of Parliament, Hon Rick Mazza.
“Now it is up to all of our stakeholders, be it farmers, recreational shooters,
firearms dealers, clubs and organisations and even transporters of firearms and
ammunition to have a good look at this Discussion Paper.
“It can only serve our best interests to make submissions back to the Law Reform Commission. Where we do not think their suggestions are fair, practical or achievable we need to explain why,” Mr Hull said.
Submissions to the WA Law Reform Commission close on 1 February 2016.
